Photo of the Month, March 2026.
Column curated by Dario Sequi.

Not every photograph is chased.
Some arrive the moment you stop trying to control them.
It is a simple truth. But in wildlife photography, it changes everything.
That morning, the air was still.
The lagoon in Molentargius Park looked like a mirror with no urgency.
In the distance, flamingos moved with an almost disciplined grace, as if the landscape had found a rhythm not to be disturbed.
Then one of them opened its wings.
It lasted a moment.
But it was not random.
To reach that instant, you need time, silence, patience. You need the ability to remain where others grow tired. You need to accept that nature does not perform on command.
As the reflection doubled the figure on the water, the thought came naturally: it looked like an étoile.
Not because of decorative elegance.
Because of precision.
Because of measure.
Because of that suspended posture capable of holding lightness and control together.
This is where wildlife photography reveals its most honest side.
Not in luck.
But in the relationship between discipline and availability.
The photographer prepares.
Observes.
Waits.
Then, when nature decides to offer something, he must be ready to recognize it.
There is also a wider lesson here, beyond the lens.
The truest things do not always make noise.
They do not impose themselves.
They do not ask for attention.
They reveal themselves to those who have learned to slow down enough to see them.
For me, this photograph carries exactly that: a wingbeat that feels like dance, a reflection that stretches time, an animal that for a moment stops being only a natural presence and becomes form, balance, vision.
Maybe that is what remains.
Not the exceptionality of the gesture.
But the respect that made it possible.
In photography, as in life, beauty is not captured.
It is encountered.
